12th century

 In the 12th century the purity of beer was tested by th 'ale-conner' whose proceedures were weird by today's standards:shock:
The 'ale-conner' entered a tavern, poured out a pool of beer onto a seat, and then sit in it in his leather breeches for half an hour. Bad sugary beer would stick his trousers to the seat,, but good beer would allow him to stand freely :D Cheers
