Software or Bloatware ?

Postby Earthling » Mon Dec 13, 2010 1:23 am

You always come along sites offering free scans or software, and as intrenet as it is , due to flaws in sotware no names mentioned here.. .

I have been using a great site for checking for holes and open ports, these guys are pro's and know what they are doing, they offer great utilities for checking security and various other operating system information. The site is at  https://www.grc.com/default.htm you are presented with their only piece of sofware these guys sell, which believe it or not was wanted by various big names.. im sure you will take time and check the site out and if you are a system engineer or a savvy home techie might like to add it to your arsenal of tools..

Most of the software and utilities are actually tiny self running apps that do not inslall.. pooop on your hard drive and then when one tries to uninstall, one finds the changes made create some instability.. etc and leave their pooop behind.

The chap that owns the company is Steve Gibson, a great engineer with commitment to serve us as the user rather than fill his pocket with the vast sums of wonga he could have charged for his great and FREE services
:!: Watch this Vid :!:  https://www.grc.com/sr/themovie.htm
To check your internet for security holes or potentail threats.. https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 ..

Check it out.. I do not know of any Sofware Engineers to offers their services for FREE!..

Obviously if one needs bespoke solutions then one can expect to pay.. come on we all need beer money to keep the inspiration flowing .. :|

You may also note your connection with the site is secure ... through >https< and for those who thinks wow .. that chick is in crawley and want's a date.. or wow the ad says im in crawley and i have won.. NOT!.. you'll see how the sites you visit can tell lots about your system, who your isp is and what your public IP address.. etc. :ugeek:

Thanks very much for this post. A good site that I have bookmarked and will look more at.

I took all the online tests and I seem secure from threats. This reflects the results from tests I did a while back with similar websites. (Sorry can't recall which).

But my results could be because I'm not a Windows user.

Windows insecurity problems were one of the reasons I ditched Windows a few years ago. Big drag having to fart around with the necessity to have to keep on top of virus nasties on every boot-up. As well as that;- with a careless click of a mouse, something nasty could be installed to execute on a system and even if a user realised their mistake, that casual careless click would cause something horrible that no clicking on the CANCEL button would stop.

Try Linux, it's free and it is far more secure.
