He volunteered in October 1915, and after his training was drafted to France. Here he fought in many engagements and was in action almost continuously until he was severely wounded and taken prisoner at Bullecourt in the Retreat of 1918. During his captivity he was employed in an engineering works at Limburg and was released after the signing of the Armistice. Returning to England, he was demobilised in May 1919 and holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals. 11 Dale Street, Walworth, S.E.17
