There has been some speculation among family researchers as to Elizabeth Matilda Capper. Some believe her to be the daughter of Harriet Smith. It is true that Harry adopted Elizabeth and raised her as his daughter.
Harriett is also a bit of a mystery as her birth details just don't work out. After much research. For some reason, Harry is down as George in one census, Harriett and the children are with him, then I find Harry living with the children with 'Clara' as his wife. There is no record of a Harry Charlesworth marrying a Clara, and Harriett's marriage record gives details of her father that don't quite ring true either. It's a great big puzzle, and it's got me stumped. Anyway, I shall post all I have found, and maybe you can work it out.
..... Update. I now have the information on her birth certificate. Elizabeth Matilda Capper, born 11th August 1866 at 44 Great Ormond Street, Queen Square. London. Mother Harriett Capper formerly Smith. Father Robert Capper. Gilder. 44 Great Ormond Street is the Children's Hospital, and I can find no record of any marriage between Robert and Harriett. Robert died in Southwark in 1880 age 46. His father William Capper was also a Gilder and his mothers name was Matilda.

Re: Charlesworth Family Tree.

Postby Hally56 » Fri Sep 13, 2019 9:02 pm

Hi my great grandmother was Annie Louisa Charlesworth - daughter of Frederick. I have quite a few certificates etc of this side of the family. Am really interested in this family. They were part of Charlesworth and Austen Tobacco Company who I believe sold out to Lambert and Butler. Annie Louisa Charlesworth married George William Hatton. My grandad was one of their 7 children Laurence Ernest Hatton. Their second son George William Hatton was KIA at Ypres in 1917 and I have many letters, photos etc of his time in WW1. I also have his medals, gas mask and other bits and pieces. If you would like copies of certificates etc for Frederick and his family and I believe I have photos of Isaac please contact me and I wold be happy to forward them.

Hello Jan xxx Thank you so much for replying to this post. xxx I am Nevis (Carol Nevis Vincent on Facebook). I have been compiling the Charlesworth tree for my friend Lesley Cooper, nee Charlesworth. She is a lovely person. She told me about the tobaccoo connection. I have only just seen your post. Strangely, I have been working for the last 2 days on the Charlesworth's. We came to a halt with Jonathan Charlesworth and Sarah Moody. You are so kind to offer copies of what you have. Lesley will be thrilled. She would love to get in touch. I will send you her email address. Best regards, Carol xxx xxxx
