This tree has been compiled for Elaine, who is very interested to find out where she comes from :) [1-beer.gif]
So Elaine, we start with your X4 Great Grandfather ...
Samuel Mileham was the Landlord of The Mole Inn and his father Thomas the tenant.
Samuel supplemented his income by his carpentry skills.

http://www.arborfieldhistory.org.uk/pro ... le_Inn.htm

Samuel Mileham was born in 1763 in Hurst, Berkshire, England.
On the 7th February 1793, in Wokingham, Berkshire, Samuel Mileham married Hannah Wotton.
Hannah was born in Hurst in 1770.
Samuel and Hannah had 4 children (none of them are your ancestor).
1. James Mileham, baptised 24th August 1794 in Hurst. Nothing else known.
2. Elizabeth Mileham, baptised 9th July 1797 in Hurst. Elizabeth married Edward Keates, a Musician, on the 10th August 1822 in Hurst.
3. Sarah Mileham, baptised 9th December 1798 in Hurst. Sarah never married and died in 1832 age 35 in Hurst.
4. Ann Mileham, baptised 10th February 1805 in Hurst. Nothing else known.

Hannah Mileham (nee Wotton) died in 1806, aged 36. She was buried on the 29th October 1806 in St Nicholas Churchyard, Hurst, Berkshire.
Her headstone reads:
" In memory of Hannah, the wife of Samuel Milham (Mileham) who departed this life on the 24th October 1906.
Also William and Ann (unreadable) and daughter of the above named, who died in their infancy."
Hannahs grave.jpg

On the 17th February 1808 at St. Lawrence, Reading, Berkshire, widower Samuel Mileham married Ann Stears.
(Ann Stears is your X4 Great Grandmother).

Ann Stears was born in 1774, place as yet unknown.
On the 24th April 1803 in St Mary, Marylebone, Middlesex, London (after banns) Ann Stears married Joseph Sedunary (Sedenary?)
One month after the marriage, Ann gave birth to a son, Joseph Edward Sedunary.
Joseph was born on the 19th May 1803 in Marylebone, Westminster, London, and baptised on the 5th June 1803 at St Mary, Marylebone.
His father Joseph, seems to have disappeared shortly after.
Family stories say that he went back to Italy to get some money and died, or was murdered.
In1796 Napoleon was welcomed in Italy as he deposed the Este family (Dukes of Modena).
Anyone connected to the Court would have had to flee, and many of them came to England.

After Samuel Mileham married Ann Stears, Samuel raised Joseph as one of his own.
In his Will, he insisted all his children children be treated equally and fairly, that any monies left after debts had been paid, be divided equally between them, including Joseph.

John Walter Mileham, Reading, Berkshire, England.

Postby Nevis » Tue Aug 18, 2020 2:09 pm

Now we come to the 5th child of William Henry Mileham and Sarah Turner.
John Walter Mileham
(Your Great Great Grandfather).

John Walter Mileham was born in the Jan/Feb/March quarter of 1850 in Reading, Berkshire.
He was bapitised on the 14th April 1850 at St. Giles, Reading, Berkshire.

1871 census of Hopwoods Lane, Egham, Surrey, England.

On the 16th January 1876 in St. Giles, Reading, Berkshire, John Walter Mileham married Eliza Bennet (your Great Great Grandmother).

I am going to start with Eliza, and her life before her marriage to John Walter Mileham.
Eliza was born in 1847 in Yarnscombe, Devon, England.

1851 census for East Delley, Yarnscombe, Devon, England.
William Bennett, head, married, 48, Agricultural Labourer, born in St. Giles in the Wood, Devon.

William Clarke, nephew, 1, born in Newton Tracey, Devon.

I couldn't find Eliza in the 1861 census. I suspect that she had been sent out to work in 1861 as a servant, maybe as a kitchen maid, as 10 years later, she is working as a Cook for the Reverend Fursdon and his family.

Eliza's sister Betsey Bennett, who was born in 1838 in Yarnscombe, married Charles Dennis, a farm labourer.
In 1868 in Barnstable, Devon, Eliza, who was unmarried, gave birth to a baby boy, Thomas Bennett.
Unable to provide for the child alone, Eliza left Thomas in the care of her sister Betsey and Betsey's husband Charles Dennis, and her mother Mary, who was living with them at the time.

Sarah Ann Fursdon, wife, 32, Rectors wife, born in George Ham, Devon.

Jane Buggs, servant, unmarried, 25, servant, born in Berrynabor, Devon.
John Coates, servant, unmarried, 17, Groom Domestic, born in George Ham, Devon.

Eliza's son Thomas Bennett, in his later years, went by the name of Thomas Bennett Mileham.
His story is a long and complicated one, so more about him later.
Now back to John Walter Mileham and Eliza.

1881 census for Chain Cottages, Egham, Surrey, England.
John W. Mileham, head, married, 31, Carpenter, born in Reading, Berkshire.
