'Confessions of an alcoholic' - Page 81:

Alex his new ‘Boss’ was a detective from the old school. They hadn’t met before so it was an opportunity for Bundy to start with a clean slate. He instantly liked Alex as a‘Boss’. There was something different about this person who gained instant respect from all of his staff.
Bundy fitted into his new role instantly. He was keen to learn as much as possible from Alex who proved to be a very competent Investigator. He was great. It was a different role to that of what Bundy held in the city working with other detectives. Not only the people were different, as country people are to city people, but there were many times when Bundy was expected to investigate serious crimes by himself.
On occasions Alex invited all of his staff to the hotel, but it was only for a couple of drinks together, and then off home. Unfortunately, Bundy wouldn’t go home when his workmates left leaving him alone to drink on until the hotel closed. No matter how difficult it was for Bundy to want to go home while he was drinking with his workmates, it was impossible for him to do so. Once he started drinking that was it.
Ada gave birth to a baby boy they named Neil. Bundy was so excited about having the pigeon pair, a girl and a boy he couldn’t contain his excitement. Beside their home where they lived, were the Reserve Army Barracks, which was handy for Bundy for all he needed to do, was to jump the side fence and he was at the bar. Drinks were sold at a discounted price, which suited him.

'Confessions of an alcoholic' - Page 82:

When he told everyone in the bar his wife had given birth to a baby boy he was shouted drinks all the remainder of the night. His newborn son turned out to be a great swimmer later in life. Was it any wonder for his head was certainly made ‘wet’ the night he was born?
It was back onto the rollercoaster ride of alcoholism on the highway of destruction once again.
Ada recently renovated their home by re-carpeting the whole house with shag pile carpet, which is a carpet with a large loop pile. To clean it rather than use a vacuum cleaner, it was more suitable to use a plastic rake so the pile of the carpet remained shaggy.
Bundy attended a court hearing at another town not far away from his home. Another officer, Peter who’d assisted him with the investigation accompanied him. After leaving court they decided to do a ‘pub crawl’ before returning home.
After visiting about ten hotels in the town they decided it was time for them to return home. On their journey home Bundy was seated in the front passenger’s seat whilst his partner Peter drove the police vehicle. Suddenly, Bundy called out to his companion, ‘Quick – stop, I’m going to get sick.’ at the same time Bundy started to wind down his window.

'Confessions of an alcoholic' - Page 83:

‘Get sick out of the window, I’m not stopping.’ His companion said and continued driving. Bundy quickly wound the handle of the window down on his side of the car. He held his head out of the window and opened his mouth, instantly vomit exploded from his mouth together with most of the alcohol he’d drank over the past six hours. Unbeknown to both Bundy and Peter the rear window on the rear door of the vehicle was open.
With the wind blowing toward Bundy as he was vomiting from the front window, the wind carried the vomit through the rear window circulating the vomit inside of the car striking Peter on the back of the head. Peter had Bundy’s vomit all over the back of his head. To stop the vomit from hitting him, Peter held a newspaper up against the side of his head so the remainder of vomit struck the newspaper instead of Peter’s head.
He continued to drive onwards towards their town not complaining about the smell of vomit on his face or clothes. Vomit was all over the side of the car as well as inside of the car.
As they were near to their police station, Peter swerved suddenly to avoid a utility from colliding with them. He gave chase to the utility. One very important unwritten code is, when you are full of grog ‘don’t play policeman.’ It didn’t matter in Peter’s case he gave chase to the utility.
‘I know the driver. Look at the way he’s driving, all over the road like he’s drunk.’ He shouted and gave chase to the utility stopping it not far from the police station.
Bundy got out of the police car and walked toward the driver’s side door of the stopped utility.

'Confessions of an alcoholic' - Page 84: Thank you dub:

The driver was drunk and slumped over the steering wheel. Bundy helped the driver out of his utility barely capable of helping himself walk with the driver to the waiting police car being driven by Peter. They continued onto the police station.
Alex and another officer were waiting for them to return to the office so they could use the car. When Alex saw what condition the car was in with vomit alongside of the vehicle, he spoke his mind.
Fortunately, for both Bundy and Peter they had arrested a person on a drink driving charge so he had to be processed by having a breath test. At the breath test the driver didn’t want to provide one so Bundy said to him, ‘How would you like me to have a blow into the machine to see what it reads?’
Immediately, the driver agreed he’d take his chance believing he was much more sober than was Bundy at the time.
Outside in the back yard of the police station the vehicle which Bundy and Peter returned was being cleaned. Alex was not a happy person telling both men to go home and he’d speak with them in the morning.
Bundy had purchased a new suit to wear for the court case. It was covered in vomit from his being sick inside of the car. When he arrived home and walked up to the front door, he opened it and for some reason wanted to vomit. He tried to place his hand up to his mouth but couldn’t stop the vomit spraying out of his mouth and onto Ada’s new carpet. It spread almost to the end of the hallway covering most of the carpet. It was a mess. Ada was not happy.

'Confessions Of An Alcoholic' - Page 85:
Bundy went down stairs to the laundry and in his drunken stupor undressed himself taking his new suit and placed it into a washing tub full of water allowing it to soak. He went to bed. Next morning he was ambushed by Ada who was so very angry and disappointed with Bundy from his actions the day before.
When he arrived at work there was further disappointment for Bundy with Alex not being very happy by his actions. Peter laughed about Bundy’s vomit hitting him on his head while he was holding the paper up to stop it.
Eventually, all had been forgiven once more. How many more times, before Bundy is forgiven until something would be done about his drinking behaviour. Luckily he didn’t drink all of the time, but when he did, he made up for the times he didn’t drink.
Not long afterwards Bundy and Alex where called to assist other detectives in a nearby town with a murder investigation. Bundy was in his element. He couldn’t be paired off with Alex because each of them weren’t familiar with the local people nor knew where to go. Bundy was paired off with a detective whom he’d known from his teenage days. He acquainted himself with this detective named Graham.
‘Do you remember me, I was one of those hoons you kicked up the arse when I was a teenager?’ He said to him.
‘It must’ve done you all right, you’re here aren’t you.’ Graham replied.
‘Yeah, all thanks to you.’ He was overwhelmed with joy to think he was working with a person who’d kept him on the straight and narrow through his teenage years.

'Confessions of an alcoholic' - Page 86:

Eventually, the murder investigation was solved. Actually, it was Alex who solved the mystery because he’d identified the murderer from a previous encounter he’d had with him some years before. After the case was wound up, a carton of beer was presented for all the investigating officers to have.
Alex handed a stubby of beer to Bundy saying, ‘you only have one - if you spew over me when we’re going home, I’ll lock you in the bloody boot of the car.’ He was serious.
It’d been a couple of months since Bundy had ‘got into trouble’ about his drinking behaviour. He was once again allowed to work by himself. One Friday evening he was working the evening shift. After his workmates had finished their shift they went over to the hotel. Bundy went with them for a couple of beers before his meal break. As usual, his workmates left after having a couple of drinks leaving Bundy at the bar drinking.
It was well past his meal break before he returned to the police station. The desk Sergeant called out to him, ‘Where the bloody hell have you been, we’ve been looking for you everywhere. These’s a fellow at one of the pubs smashed his mate in the face with a glass. His mate is at the hospital and they have him at the hotel. You better get around there.’
Bundy had been drinking for about four hours so he was fairly intoxicated by that time of the night. Instead of driving a police vehicle to the hotel, he decided to walk to give himself time to sober up.

'Confessions of an alcoholic' - Page 87:

The culprit was already detained so he wasn’t going anywhere. When he walked from the police station to the hotel, he was trying to gather his wits.
When he arrived where the suspect was being detained, Bundy sobered up a little, but not enough. His thoughts became clearer as he entered the lounge where the ‘would be’ offender was being held.
After introducing himself to him, there was no sign of a weapon or remains of the glass used by the offender to smash his mate’s face. Bundy quickly sobered enough to ask the offender to walk with him back to the police station. Both Bundy and the offender were intoxicated. ‘Where’s your car?’ He said.
‘I didn’t drive - I walked. I’ve had a few drinks and you look like you’ve had a few too. We’ll have a walk around the block first to sober up before we go to the police station.’ Bundy replied.
‘Yeah, sounds good. A walk will sober me,’ He replied.
They walked around the block returning to the police station and by the time they arrived at the office both had been talking to one another about what had happened.
Actually, Bundy didn’t have to interrogate the offender for he had sufficient evidence to support a charge.
When the offender appeared at the court the following morning, he wanted to have the charge heard and to plead ‘guilty’. The offender wanted the matter over and done with, which would have satisfied Bundy no end. Unfortunately, the Magistrate hearing the court case decided it was much too serious a case and remanded it for a higher court hearing. Bundy was in trouble again.
