Thank you mzawf: This is the page for today: 'Confessions of an alcoholic' - Page 78:

On this occasion after the wedding celebrations were over and the bride and groom left their reception, Bundy and Ada with Nicole parked their utility in a park on the outskirts of town. Ada with Nicole went to bed in the back of the utility closely followed by Bundy. Bundy was drunk.
Ada was comfortably asleep in bed when Bundy crawled in beside her. Nicole was sleeping in her bassinette. ‘What have you been doing - you stink. You’re drunk again.’ She was right Bundy was drunk and together with the smell of stale whisky mixed with urine the smell was overpowering in such a small space of a canopy.
Early the following morning Bundy crawled his way out from inside of the canopy noticing a person walking towards their vehicle.
‘Good Morning?’ Bundy called to this person.
‘I was just noticing your canopy. It looks good.’ said the stranger.
‘Yeah, I’ve just had it built not long ago.’
‘Good morning to you, I’ll be off then.’
Near the front of the vehicle and not far from where this stranger had walked were the remains of human excreta.
‘Whom the bloody hell would’ve done this just here?’ he pointed to the human excreta.
‘That was you last night. You did it before you come to bed - you shit yourself.’ Ada said in a voice of disbelief her husband was so disgusting, ‘that fellow you were talking with must have seen it. He almost stood in it - I’m going for breakfast at the service station up the road. Are you coming?

'Confessions of an alcoholic' - Page 79:

‘Yes, of course I’m coming. I’ll have bacon and eggs to put food into my stomach.’ Ada always ordered greasy bacon and eggs so the grease could eat away any toxins left over from the stale alcohol. Bundy hated it when he had to eat greasy food because at times, depending on how sick he had been from drinking, he couldn’t stand the smell of grease. He’d eat the food to keep peace with Ada.
Bundy always wanted to become a detective. Eventually his wish became reality. He was transferred back to the city. It was only four years before when he’d worked with other detectives as an under cover agent. This time he was working side by side with detectives, some of them he’d known from previously working with them. Others, he learned to adapt to a different style of policing involving investigations.
On his first day he was partnered with a detective who’d seen better days. He knew when to have a drink and when not to have a drink. It was his practice to have a drink only once every fortnight, which had to be the same day as payday. ‘Work always came first’ was his motto.
This helped Bundy to settle into his role as an Investigator. At least he had time to learn the ropes from a senior detective rather than being thrown to the wolves. It was beginning to become a dry argument working with this detective when it came to drinking. Most of the other junior detectives were out working with much more motivated detectives at the same time enjoying the fruits of learning ‘how the job should be done.’ The day eventually arrived when Bundy was accepted into that group.

'Confessions of an alcoholic' - Page 80:

Sometime afterwards Bundy started to learn ‘how to investigate’ to improve his skills. He was placed to work with a number of other detectives in various squads, to round off his training. He hadn’t been drunk for sometime mainly concentrating on learning skills to become a detective.
One afternoon he worked with a detective who held a similar position to Bundy. Afterwards when they finished their shift, his new partner invited Bundy for a drink.
What a mistake. That night Bundy was again on the alcohol rollercoaster ride of destruction. Up until this time Bundy had hardly tasted a beer for months but with the first taste of alcohol, he couldn’t stop at one until he was completely drunk.
He arrived home and tried to explain to Ada – where he’d been – what he’d done. Bundy again let her down together with his friends, which he was quickly losing because of his drinking behaviour. While he was out at a nightclub, a lifetime friend visited him. They left when Bundy didn’t arrive home at his usual time.
Nothing was sinking into Bundy’s brain about responsibility or accountability. All he wanted to do was drink alcohol allowing his life to roll along. There were times when he’d get caught up with his workmates after work at the hotel leaving with enough time to be on the last train home at night. He was asleep as the train past his station and regularly walked fifteen kilometres home from the last station on the line.
Apart from each drinking session, Bundy received his detective appointment together with a transfer to a town some four hours drive from the city. He was overjoyed with his transfer because he could now make a new start and hopefully, take a look at himself. Being appointed a detective gave him more responsibility and accountability to go with that appointment. He was fortunate enough to be transferred to a town where he wasn't known and could start afresh, unfortunately, old habits die-hard.

'Confessions of an alcoholic' - Page 81:

Alex his new ‘Boss’ was a detective from the old school. They hadn’t met before so it was an opportunity for Bundy to start with a clean slate. He instantly liked Alex as a‘Boss’. There was something different about this person who gained instant respect from all of his staff.
Bundy fitted into his new role instantly. He was keen to learn as much as possible from Alex who proved to be a very competent Investigator. He was great. It was a different role to that of what Bundy held in the city working with other detectives. Not only the people were different, as country people are to city people, but there were many times when Bundy was expected to investigate serious crimes by himself.
On occasions Alex invited all of his staff to the hotel, but it was only for a couple of drinks together, and then off home. Unfortunately, Bundy wouldn’t go home when his workmates left leaving him alone to drink on until the hotel closed. No matter how difficult it was for Bundy to want to go home while he was drinking with his workmates, it was impossible for him to do so. Once he started drinking that was it.
Ada gave birth to a baby boy they named Neil. Bundy was so excited about having the pigeon pair, a girl and a boy he couldn’t contain his excitement. Beside their home where they lived, were the Reserve Army Barracks, which was handy for Bundy for all he needed to do, was to jump the side fence and he was at the bar. Drinks were sold at a discounted price, which suited him.

'Confessions of an alcoholic' - Page 82:

When he told everyone in the bar his wife had given birth to a baby boy he was shouted drinks all the remainder of the night. His newborn son turned out to be a great swimmer later in life. Was it any wonder for his head was certainly made ‘wet’ the night he was born?
It was back onto the rollercoaster ride of alcoholism on the highway of destruction once again.
Ada recently renovated their home by re-carpeting the whole house with shag pile carpet, which is a carpet with a large loop pile. To clean it rather than use a vacuum cleaner, it was more suitable to use a plastic rake so the pile of the carpet remained shaggy.
Bundy attended a court hearing at another town not far away from his home. Another officer, Peter who’d assisted him with the investigation accompanied him. After leaving court they decided to do a ‘pub crawl’ before returning home.
After visiting about ten hotels in the town they decided it was time for them to return home. On their journey home Bundy was seated in the front passenger’s seat whilst his partner Peter drove the police vehicle. Suddenly, Bundy called out to his companion, ‘Quick – stop, I’m going to get sick.’ at the same time Bundy started to wind down his window.

'Confessions of an alcoholic' - Page 83:

‘Get sick out of the window, I’m not stopping.’ His companion said and continued driving. Bundy quickly wound the handle of the window down on his side of the car. He held his head out of the window and opened his mouth, instantly vomit exploded from his mouth together with most of the alcohol he’d drank over the past six hours. Unbeknown to both Bundy and Peter the rear window on the rear door of the vehicle was open.
With the wind blowing toward Bundy as he was vomiting from the front window, the wind carried the vomit through the rear window circulating the vomit inside of the car striking Peter on the back of the head. Peter had Bundy’s vomit all over the back of his head. To stop the vomit from hitting him, Peter held a newspaper up against the side of his head so the remainder of vomit struck the newspaper instead of Peter’s head.
He continued to drive onwards towards their town not complaining about the smell of vomit on his face or clothes. Vomit was all over the side of the car as well as inside of the car.
As they were near to their police station, Peter swerved suddenly to avoid a utility from colliding with them. He gave chase to the utility. One very important unwritten code is, when you are full of grog ‘don’t play policeman.’ It didn’t matter in Peter’s case he gave chase to the utility.
‘I know the driver. Look at the way he’s driving, all over the road like he’s drunk.’ He shouted and gave chase to the utility stopping it not far from the police station.
Bundy got out of the police car and walked toward the driver’s side door of the stopped utility.

'Confessions of an alcoholic' - Page 84: Thank you dub:

The driver was drunk and slumped over the steering wheel. Bundy helped the driver out of his utility barely capable of helping himself walk with the driver to the waiting police car being driven by Peter. They continued onto the police station.
Alex and another officer were waiting for them to return to the office so they could use the car. When Alex saw what condition the car was in with vomit alongside of the vehicle, he spoke his mind.
Fortunately, for both Bundy and Peter they had arrested a person on a drink driving charge so he had to be processed by having a breath test. At the breath test the driver didn’t want to provide one so Bundy said to him, ‘How would you like me to have a blow into the machine to see what it reads?’
Immediately, the driver agreed he’d take his chance believing he was much more sober than was Bundy at the time.
Outside in the back yard of the police station the vehicle which Bundy and Peter returned was being cleaned. Alex was not a happy person telling both men to go home and he’d speak with them in the morning.
Bundy had purchased a new suit to wear for the court case. It was covered in vomit from his being sick inside of the car. When he arrived home and walked up to the front door, he opened it and for some reason wanted to vomit. He tried to place his hand up to his mouth but couldn’t stop the vomit spraying out of his mouth and onto Ada’s new carpet. It spread almost to the end of the hallway covering most of the carpet. It was a mess. Ada was not happy.
